I had to go to the Pharmacy today because I didn’t bring most of my toiletries, which then led me to ask the local pharmacist for her opinion on the happiness of the locals.
“No, people here are not happy.”
“But everyone here is so friendly, even to tourists! Which the Parisians have no idea about.”
“People here are really friendly, yes. But after the crisis, people are really struggling.”
Other major cities such as KL, Paris, London, to name a few, don’t exactly have that warm vibe to tourists, and I’m trying to find out what makes Lisbon, Lisbon. The place where Asian tourists are welcomed instead of being explicitly (or more commonly, implicitly) discriminated against. The place where they encourage graffiti on any wall you can find, and not get fined. The place where zebra crossings actually work, where pedestrians can doubtless trust road users to patiently wait for them to cross the road.
Why are people here so friendly? I don’t know, but I’ll keep asking.
Besides that, the egg tarts have several flaky layers as base and a nicely charred layer of sugar on the top; and it by default makes the crumbly ones you have in dim sum places its bitch. Bad ass mother fking egg tarts man. Beer here is cheaper than orange juice too. So get beer la then.
